Where in the world... VENICE


In the city of Venice, Italy, there are 120 small islands joined by 455 bridges. It is called `the city of canals´.

In this place there are many palaces, built in the golden period of Venice. The palaces are very beautiful, and, the most important palaces are in the Big Canal. There are also many spectacular Churches.

The `Accademia di Belle Arti´ is the Academy of Arts of Venice. Students' masterpieces were the origin of the gallery called `Gallerie dell´Accademia´. It has the most important collections of Italian art. It is on the south bank of the Big Canal of Venice.

The `gondola´ is a traditional boat in Venice. The `gondola´ is an important means of transport. The man who rows the `gondola´ is called `gondolero´.
