Where in the world... THE YELLOW RIVER

The Yellow River is by 5464 km, the second course, China's longest river, behind only the Yangtze, and the fifth of the Earth.
Its name comes from the large amount of suspended matter dragging their turbulent waters, mud and sandy loess-fine particles, with a predominance of quartz, giving it its characteristic color.

Travel
The river rises in the high plateau of Tibet and Qinghai, in the mountains Kunlu, particularly in the Tsinghai, about 4500 meters. After draining the area, through the Chinese provinces of Qinghai and Gansu, then moving north to the desert of Ordos in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. From there the course moves to the south, coming in Shanxi and marking the boundary between this province and neighboring Shaanxi, entering and finally in Shandong Henan. It flows into a large delta in the so-called Bohai Sea, located in the northern Gulf of the Yellow Sea in the east coast of China.
Its main tributaries are the Chue Fen and Wei-Ho.

Historically, it is the most important river in China. In its basin numerous archaeological sites have been discovered which show continuous human presence since prehistoric times. Around it, in the North China plain, arose the civilization of the Han, the largest ethnic group in the country and then the first dynasties, whose territory would later expand to the south.
The Yellow River is the origin of the names of the Chinese provinces of Hebei and Henan, which means, literally and respectively, 'North of the river' and 'South of the river. "
