The Dead Sea is a salt lake located 416.5 m below sea level between Israel and the Palestinian Territories. It is the lowest place on Earth, being the deepest part of a depression crossed by the River Jordan. It is about 76 km long and a maximum width of about 16 km, its surface is about 625 km ². Jordan River receives water from other sources minors and low rainfall that occurs over the lake is about ten times saltier than the ocean so that there is no living thing in it. But it is the saltiest lake on Earth, since it exceeds the Lake Assal in Djibouti and some Antarctic lakes.
